Thanks to a certain TV show, the idea that aliens may have influenced human development and culture has become well known, even to people who have never read a book by Erich von Daniken. The idea is often referred to as the ancient astronaut theory. Mainly, the theory contends that evidence found in myths and artwork from ancient civilizations points to an alien presence on Earth throughout human history. The theory is often extended to encompass the mind-boggling engineering feats of ancient cultures, explaining those accomplishments as the result of alien technology. I firmly believe that aliens have visited our … Read the rest of this post →
Do Aliens Want to Hug Us or Pummel Us?
This November, NASA plans to launch the Mars Science Laboratory, the latest rover to make the journey to the Red Planet. With any luck, the rover will touch down on Mars in August of 2012. The last rover to set foot (figuratively) on Mars was the Phoenix Mars Lander, which touched down just before 8:00 PM Eastern time on May 25, 2008. That mission’s goal was to study soil samples and search for evidence of water ice on Mars. It’s a far cry from the goal of the Martians in War of the Worlds, either the book or the movie … Read the rest of this post →
Bigfoot and UFOs: Crossing the Great Divide
Are Bigfoot and UFOs really as different as many researchers in the respective fields like to think? Or could these fields of research share traits in common? And no, I’m not referring to the much-debated Bigfoot-UFO connection. I’m talking about commonalities between the two fields of research. Commonality #1: In both Bigfoot and UFO research, people argue over whether the phenomenon in question is paranormal or not. UFOs must be either nuts-and-bolts craft or paranormal. Bigfoot must be either a flesh-and-blood animal or paranormal. In these discussions, the word paranormal is used as if you were synonymous with incorporeal or … Read the rest of this post →
Bigfoot Fossils, Part 2: An Array of Possibilities
Last week, I talked about the possibility that we may have already found the bones of Bigfoot but scientists label them as ancient hominids, supposed ancestors of human beings. Since few scientists accept the existence of Bigfoot as a real animal, rather than a myth, any humanoid-but-not-human remains will get tossed into the pile of prehuman hominids from which we purportedly evolved. Yet, as I discussed in my previous post, if we take a good look at those hominids, we find they resemble Bigfoot more than they resemble us. In that post, I focused on two examples of ancient hominids—Homo … Read the rest of this post →
Bigfoot Fossils: The Secret Evidence?
Long, long ago in a time before humans walked the earth lived a pair of species called Homo erectus and Homo heidelbergensis. Oops! I almost forgot that “human” means any creature that paleoanthropologists want to cram into the genus Homo, whether it looks like an ape-man or a human man. Homo heidelbergensis and Homo erectus are two such species. They’re so similar that paleoanthropologists often have trouble distinguishing the two (which suggests perhaps they aren’t separate species after all). What sets them apart from us? Try these features: Smaller brains More robust bones and teeth Pronounced brow ridges Larger, robust … Read the rest of this post →
